Films: Near Dark (1987)
Alias: Mae, Severen, Jesse Hooker, Diamondback, Homer
Type: Mystical
Location: Civilized area
Height/Weight: That of average humans.
Affiliation: Good (Mae), Evil (the rest)
Summary: Being a vampire isn't fun and games, but it's nice to find that they are perfectly capable of coming together as a family to do their thing after night falls. Then again, most of the guys in this family were equally nasty. Most of them.
History: For some time, the midwestern U.S. has been terrorized by a gang of violent vampires led by former Confederate, Jesse Hooker. Their most recent addition is Caleb Colton, who's only alive because one of the vampires, Mae, pities him. From there, Caleb must endure being one with a family of psychopaths.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: Severen is run over and gets blown up alongside a truck, and the rest are burned to nothing by the sun. Mae survives though, having got a blood transfusion to cure her vampiric curse and live alongside Caleb in harmony.
Powers/Abilities: Bite to spread the vampire curse.
Weakness: Sunlight and explosions, not to mention that a blood transfusion of human blood will cure them.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-These guys are anarchists, plain and simple. Even if they weren't vampires, they'd be a serious problem, especially the unhinged Severen. Though the fact that they are vampires makes it rather priceless to see them burn up in the sun like that.
Trivia: -Jesse was played by Lance Henrikson, who some might recognize as Bishop from "Aliens" and the voice of Kerchak from Disney's "Tarzan".
-This film was originally just a western, but due to financial difficulties, the filmmakers saw it fit to combine the more popular vampire genre to improve things. For the most part, it worked.
